Tim Brewster, Founder Train Boston

Tim Brewster has 20+ years of experience helping professional and collegiate athletes to overcome injury and improve their athletic performance. He opened Train Boston Sports Center, in 2001, following a lifelong interest in sport and athletic performance, when he recognized the need for a better sports performance solution. Under his direction, Train Boston has become New England's premier fitness training and physical therapy facility. On a daily basis, he works with athletes from all over the country to get past injuries and get back into the game stronger. Throughout his career, he has worked with hundreds of professional baseball, basketball, football and soccer players, including the likes of Roosevelt Colvin, Christian Fauria, Larry Centers, Andre Davis, Taylor Twelman Chris Tierney, and Clint Dempsey. In addition to his commitments at Train Boston, he consults for the New England Patriots working their injured reserve athletes.

Tim's passion for sports began in high school, a passion that led to him becoming a two-sport collegiate athlete playing basketball and baseball.  His many career highlights include being part of the medical staff for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, working as an Assistant Trainer for the Atlantic Hawks, interning at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California and as Strength Coach for the New England Revolution soccer team, where he helped build a historically last place team to one that went to multiple championship games between 2002-2007.

As a media personality and writer, his expertise is consistently called upon by TV, radio and print media outlets to assess news making professional sports injuries and to provide guidance to individuals. He has been featured in numerous media outlets, including Boston's WBZ TV, Boston Magazine, the Newton Tab, and the Wellesley Townsman.

Tim holds a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy and a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology from Boston University's Sargent College, and is a member of the National Strength & Conditioning Association.

 


 

 

Terry Sherman, Business Manager

 

Terry brings over 30 years of experience in operations and education to her role as Train Boston's Business Manager. Prior to joining Train Boston in 2009, Terry taught preschool age children. Before that she ran a multi-million dollar import business where she gained a wealth of experience as their Senior Vice President of Operations.  She traveled to Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and opened import offices in both Brazil and England.

Terry attended Aquinas College where she received a degree in Medical Assisting.

 

 

 


 

 

 

 

Rob Strachan, PT, DPT, Director of Physical Therapy

University of Miami, Bachelor of Business Administration
 

Rob directs and manages patient care using advanced, integrated manual and exercise therapy resulting in progressive and efficient care. He attends the latest continuing education courses on manual therapy, surgical, and non-surgical treatment options. Rob also serves on committees for the American Physical Therapy Association of MA. His athletic background includes high school soccer, Ironman finisher, marathon finisher, and has competed in many triathlons including Sprint, Olympic, and Half Ironman races. He also competes in 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons.

 

 


 

 

David Balogh, PT, DPT, Physical Therapist

David Balogh specializes in the treatment of sport related injuries, spine dysfunction and post–op orthopedic rehabilitation. He utilizes an integrated approach of manual therapy with corrective therapeutic exercises to enhance functional, sport and recreational abilities. He has taken a number of courses focusing on progressive spine evaluation and treatments. He is also a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and Orthopedic Section.

 

 

 


 

 

Kevin Wagner, PT, MSPT, Physical Therapist

Kevin uses his clinical experience and proficient manual therapeutic skills to help diagnose and treat conditions effectively to produce efficient results for a faster and longer lasting recovery. Prior to joining Train Boston Physical Therapy, Kevin was Assistant Clinical Director of Complete PT, a private outpatient orthopedic physical therapy clinic in Los Angeles, where he completed both traditional physical therapy and also aquatic rehabilitation and aquatic strength and conditioning. He has completed continuing education courses in functional movement screening, assessment and corrective exercises in order to analyze movement patterns to help reduce injury risk and to assist in rehabilitation post injury.

 

 


 

 

Mitch Shechtman, CSCS, Personal Trainer

 

Mitch Schechtman has over 20 years of personal training and sports performance experience specializing in youth athletes and adults.  His unique combination of skill, experience and the wisdom of being an experienced parent and coach makes him a leader in the personal training field.  Mitch has worked with high school and collegiate athletes and teams involved in baseball, hockey, football, soccer, basketball, lacrosse and karate.  Mitch also has extensive experience working with clients struggling with obesity, pre and post natal women, and middle age individuals who sre trying to get in shape or enhance their fitness level.

Mitch graduated Magna Cum Lauda from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Exercise Physiology. He lives in West Newton with his wife and two teenage boys. He has coached his sons in multiple sports, including baseball, basketball, swimming and karate. Along with his family interests, Mitch holds an advance rank Belt in Kenpo Karate.

 


 

 

Emily Carusone, CSCS, Personal Trainer

 

Emily Carusone has over 14 years of experience training amateur and professional athletes.

Prior to joining Train Boston in 2010 as a personal trainer, she was the lead strength coach for Boston University's Athletic Enhancement Center where she worked closely with the physical therapy and nutrition departments to transition athletes back to competition. Before that, she was director and head trainer at the athletic training center at Cape Cod Rehabilitation.

A former professional women's football player and track and field competitor, Emily earned both her undergraduate and Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology at Syracuse University. She lives in Brookline and has two daughters.

 

 

 


 

 

Kelly Stemp, CSCS, HFS, Training Director & Personal Trainer


Kelly Stemp brings nearly 10 years of experience and education on both the East and West coasts to her role as personal trainer for Train Boston. Throughout her career she has trained clients of all ages and levels, from post-rehab patients to professional athletes and teams. Previously, she was the General Manager for VERT Fitness & Physical Therapy in Santa Monica, CA where she managed a staff of 20. Her experience there included training the Orlando Magic and 76ers strength coaches on the how to use and incorporate VERT's specialized equipment into their strength programs. Prior to that, she was an Exercise Specialist at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL.

Kelly earned her B.S. in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science and a minor in coaching and nutrition from James Madison University, which she attended on a Division I track and cross country scholarship. In addition, she has earned a number of certifications including as a Health Fitness Specialist (HFS) from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).  Kelly has competed in numerous triathlons as well as the National Junior Olympics in cross country.

 


 

 

Chris Brown, CSCS, CES, Personal Trainer 


Christopher Brown went to college at The University of Connecticut where he received his BS in Kinesiology studying under/working with industry greats such as Dr. William Kraemer and Dr. Jeff Volek, working closely with the Division I athletes.

He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, CSCS, through The National Strength & Conditioning Association, NSCA, a Corrective Exercise Specialist, CES, with The National Academy of Sports Medicine, NASM, and a Nutrition Specialist with the American Academy of Sports Dietitians and Nutritionists, AASDN. He has competed at the college level in Wrestling and Track & Field, and Mixed Martial Arts.

Now he competes in natural bodybuilding, strongman events and multiple 5k and 10k running events and obstacle courses regularly, regularly placing well.

He most recently worked in Boston at Massachusetts General Hospital’s wellness center where he worked with hospital employees training and educating them in fitness and proper nutrition for a little over three years.

 

 


 

 

Rachel Kralian, HFS, CPT, CSCS, Personal Trainer

Rachel Kralian received her M.S. in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a concentration in Wellness and Fitness from California University of Pennsylvania.  She acquired her B.S. in Kinesiology: Exercise Science, a minor in Nutritional Sciences, and an additional minor in Interdisciplinary Disabilities Studies from the University of New Hampshire.  Rachel has trained those in cardiac rehabilitation, obese individuals, children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Paralympic gold medalists, collegiate athletes, young children and seniors.  She was a competitive soccer and track & field athlete and enjoys bringing her sports background into her training style.  Rachel has her HFS through ACSM, her CSCS through NSCA, her CPT through NASM, and is National Association of Speed and Explosion (NASE) certified.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Mike Belanger, CSCS, HKC, Personal Trainer

Mike’s background is slightly different than that of many personal trainers. After college he entered the corporate world and spent over 9 years as a Financial Analyst. After nine years of a mostly unfulfilling career he decided to follow his passion and enter the fitness industry.  Coming from an office environment has given him a unique perspective on how to use exercise to combat the negative impact of a sedentary lifestyle.

Mike has experience working with athletes of all ages and levels, including grade school and middle school kids. He also has experience working with adults seeking to lose weight, people rehabbing from injury, and people simply trying to elevate their fitness level. His certifications include; Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA, Certified Kettle bell Instructor (HKC) through the RKC, Youth Fitness Specialist through the International Youth Conditioning Association, and Functional Movement Screen Specialist.

Mike continues to compete in various men’s baseball leagues in the Metro West area and is coming up on his 30th season.
